Gubernatorial Candidates Get “Stuck for Life”
June 25, 2010
Three of the candidates for Tennessee governor, Bill Haslam, Mike McWherter, and Ron Ramsey, may be in competition for the top office in the state, but they have joined forces to wage a bigger battle- the fight for life. Each of the candidates will donate blood to help make sure blood is available for patients who need it this summer in the State of Tennessee.
(Schedule of donations: Mike McWherter will give blood on Thursday, July 1 at 4:00 p.m.at LIFELINE Blood Services, 828 N. Parkway, Jackson. Bill Haslam’s blood donation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29 at MEDIC Regional Blood Center, Knoxville, TN. Ron Ramsey will donate blood on Wednesday, June 30 at Marsh Regional Blood Center’s Kingsport, TN location.)
Every day there is a need for blood. Each year, patients in the U.S. require over 14 million units of blood for treatment of conditions such as massive trauma, surgeries, cancer, pre-mature births, and other illnesses. The only way to ensure that blood is available is to make sure volunteer blood donors give it regularly. There is no substitute. Nothing has been developed yet that take the place of this complex and wonderful life-giving fluid.
So, in considering your choice in this election, remember that each of these men showed their true humanitarian and giving spirit by setting an example we all can follow, regardless of political persuasion, by being a blood donor.
To find out how you can join our candidates in making sure blood will be available when our family and friends need it, visit www.lifelinebloodserv.org or www.americasblood.org to find a blood center near you and make an appointment. You never know who will need your blood.
