Cancer Eligibility Information
Donors diagnosed with cancer will be an indefinite deferral.
Donors who are cancer free for 5 years must obtain a physician’s statement for possible reinstatement.
A donor who has a history of any type of Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome or Multiple Myeloma will remain an indefinite deferral.
Potential donors who have had minor skin cancer (basal cell or squamous cell) may be accepted. Melanoma requires indefinite deferral.
Cancer of the cervix is acceptable if the donor provides a statement from her physician that it was “carcinoma-in-situ.” This must be approved by the Medical Director. Donor should be indefinitely deferred until such a statement is provided.
CANCER DEFERRAL REINSTATEMENT
Lifeline Blood Services has implemented a new allowance for donors with a history of cancer.
A donor who has a history of any type of Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome or Multiple Myeloma will remain an indefinite deferral.
Donors who are cancer free for 5 years may now be eligible as a blood donor.
Individuals who are interested in being allowed to donate must obtain a written statement of consent from their physician and submit it for approval by Lifeline’s Medical Director. These donors will be required to bring a physician statement to Lifeline Blood Services or fax this statement to 731-424-1574.
The medical director will review this physician statement and determine eligibility.
Donors who qualify for reinstatement will be contacted upon approval of the physician statement
