Reagent Red Cell Donor Program

WHY SHOULD I DONATE REAGENT RED BLOOD CELLS?

  • Reagent Red Cell Donors are a critical part of the process of making blood safe and compatible for patients needs a transfusion.

  • If your blood type has been identified to have special antigen typings that can be used to help make reagents (chemicals used to test blood compatibility and safety), our lab may contact you.

  • The donation process is the same as donating blood like you have done in the past. The difference is that you will enable thousands of safe and effective transfusions, not just in your own community, but worldwide.

  • You have a rare gift that has the potential to benefit thousands. After each Reagent Red Cell donation, you will receive a special item by mail to thank you for your participation.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A REAGENT RED CELL DONOR?

  • A commitment to give a Reagent Red Cell (RRC) donation five (5) times a year.

  • RRC Donation dates must be scheduled by a member of our staff in advance. Unscheduled donations cannot be accepted.

  • RRC donors MUST take this commitment seriously due to the specialized requirements of this process.
